Son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Wood. Husband of Elizabeth (Stewart) Wood, married in 1893. Arrived from England in 1892 and was naturalized in 1900. Was the rector of St. Mark Church in Ashland, NH. From The Ashland Citizen, January 9, 1909: "The Rev. Herbert Luther Wood, for three years, rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church of this place died Wednesday morning at the Episcopal Parsonage after a lingering illness of pernicious anemia. His death came as a severe shock to his family and many friends, for while in this place he made many friends and has endeared himself to his parishioners.

Rev. Mr. Wood was born in Halifax, England, Oct. 4, 1856 and at the time of his death was 52 years, three months and two days of age. He is the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Butterfield) Wood, highly respected people of England. Mr. Wood was educated at Durham University, England and was ordained as an Episcopal clergyman by Bishop Bond of Montreal, Canada, twenty years ago. Since that time he has had charge of parishes at Hemmingford, P. Q., Rouses Point, N. Y., Clifton Forge, Virginia, Saco, Me., London, Eng., and three years as rector of St. Mark' Parish.

In 1893 Rev. Mr. Wood was married to Elizabeth Stewart of Hawick, P. Q., four children resulting from the marriage, three daughters and one son, all of whom are living. Besides the widow and children Mr. Wood is survived by other near relatives.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from St. Mark's Parish with Bishop Niles, Rev. Loren Webster and Rev. James Thompson as the officiating clergymen. Interment will take place in trinity Churchyard at Holderness."

Surviving him are his wife, two sons, Colonial JC Stewart, DS 0, in Command of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, William Hilyard Stewart of New York. And two daughters, Miss. Bessie Stewart, and Mrs. Frederick H. Roberts, also one brother, George Stewart of Howick PQ, and two sisters, Mrs. John Patch of Montreal, and Mrs. Elizabeth Wood.

She was the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth Gordon Stewart of Howick Québec. Her husband died while serving as Rector of the Episcopal Church at Ashland NH. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. W. E. Bailey of Palatka Florida, Mrs. R. L. Anderson of New York City, and Mrs. S. J.Broeck, of Newton Centre Massachusetts, a son, Gifford Wood of Waltham Massachusetts, a sister, Mrs. John S. Patch, of Montreal and seven grandchildren. Funeral service was held in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Palatka Florida.
